Cafe living

2006-06-27 - 8:36 p.m.

Soundtrack: Liz Phair - "Red Light Fever", "Take a Look"

I approximate a bisquick Jesus in the corner pocket of Fair Trade: mellowly palpable during a sunny turn about meatspace. Pockets of bourgeoise noise round out contentedly watered young things. Death, politics, the 80's. Intimate dealings have inured me to ignoring the ass-speak without murder humming in my veins.

I'm looking over at an asian sculpture of a male courtier over in the garden section.

It feels like monday when it should be thursday. I keep getting messages that I can and can't return for an odd set of technical reasons. Either that or I'm feeling vaguely hermit like. Still need to get back to Brian about doing something. Scott M. also wants to do dinner sometime. And then there's the camping thing on July 1st.

Maybe stopping by the graveyard again will mellow things out. The dead make things surprisingly clear. Not always pleasant, but I've had good luck with the ones on Regent.

Whatever happened to wanking to low-fi porn on a saturday night, anyway?

So far as today goes, the weaning of our first group of weanlings went fine. Rachel, one of my assistants, passed along that they seem to be adjusting fine. And they aren't shrieking to the high hells. I'd been led to think that they'd be having a horrid time about it.

Mostly I've been winding down labyrinths deep underground, navigating by the candlelight of the scientific literature. I'm attempting to find out how much Omega-6 fatty acid to include in a supplemental diet shake for monkeys. It's been two straight days of many dead-ends; few leads; several coffees. But I am making progress and picking up a lot on nutrition, biochemistry, all that jazz.

I've also gotten back to analyzing that 1991 survey data set. That too I have to kinda start from scratch on, based on some stuff our post-doc stats maven suggested. That's actually a welcome brain-sink from reading stuff in biochemstry and surgery journals. Mind-expanding but painful, like mescalin without so much rat in it.

(Damn paste button and my carefully cultivated apathy. Passage castrated)

In general things are beautiful. If it weren't for the earphones hurting my ears this'd be one of those lax moments. Wait. Inspiration. There. Damnit. I hate listening to Chinese. Ah well, close enough to perfect.

I'll finish the Detroit trip later. And the conference later.

So until later, then.
