Independence by means of burrito

2010-03-22 - 1:13 a.m.

I worked on work work for 2 hours on Saturday. The rest of that day consisted of going out with Erik and Kris to the Come Back. We had drank beer, I ate baked pretzels, and we delved into video game arcana from the late 1980's to mid-1990's. Erik mentioned at the end that that wasn't quite it, and said we'd do something tomorrow.

This being Wisconsin, I naturally thought we would get more people and drink more beer.

Actually no.

Erik texted and suggested riding bikes up to some distant location. Being that I'm on my own schedule, I figured why not. The route we took ended up being much less far, but we biked here and there, tried to stop off at the Malthouse, found it was closed, and opted for EVP instead.

I ordered a chai and observed that, at least in Madison, you can immediately tell what sort of coffeehouse establishment you're in by three things:

1) The proportion of bohemian to non-bohemian people;

2) The ratio of Mac laptops to PC's;

3) The degree of unkempt hair styling.

This place was clearly an outgrowth of the Willy St. hippie/yuppie (huppie?) area. We sat outside and talked about the future. Erik would like to combine CS and a 'philosophy of mind' angle, which is an existing specialty program in some places. I made it official offical on Friday and am doing Penn. I suppose most of it revolved around how the future was an exciting unknown for both of us.

These next 11 or so weeks before I move are going to be interesting.

After that we headed to his place, got some of his home-brewed beer, talked more in the park near the frozen lake, and finally went our separate ways. I proceeded to engage in mild stupidity by going grocery shopping at 5:30. Woodman's on the west side is typically packed, but this was about as bad as it usually gets.

I hate being in crowded places with bitchy weird people. Combining that with food selection makes for an unpleasant experience. I didn't know what I was going to get at first, but shopping lists of old came back to me.

I came home and made burritos. This is the first time I've ever cooked in my apartment, because, well, I always had Emily's apartment to go to and do the whole couple's thing.

I then played the Witcher for roughly 4 hours and didn't regret a second of it. I did no work today and it feels great.

I like this new independence.
